[edit | edit source]Following the tragic death of her parents in a car accident, eight-year-old Cady is relocated to live with her aunt Gemma, who works as a roboticist at the advanced Seattle toy company, Funki. Gemma is secretly utilizing the company's resources to create M3GAN (model 3 generative android), a child-sized humanoid robot doll that is driven by artificial intelligence, intended to serve as the perfect companion for children. During a failed test of M3GAN in their laboratory, Gemma's supervisor, David, uncovers the project and instructs her to cease all work on it.
