Home Alone 2: Lost in New York is a Christmas comedy film from 1992, directed by Chris Columbus and written and produced by John Hughes. This sequel to Home Alone (1990) is the second film in the Home Alone series, featuring stars such as Macaulay Culkin, Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern, John Heard, Tim Curry, Brenda Fricker, and Catherine O'Hara. The plot centers on Kevin McCallister, who becomes separated from his family during their vacation to Florida. He encounters the Wet Bandits once again in New York City following their escape from prison. Hughes completed the screenplay by February 1991, after entering into a six-picture agreement with 20th Century Fox. Culkin's return was confirmed in May, and the remainder of the cast was finalized shortly thereafter. Principal photography occurred from December 1991 to May 1992, filmed on location in Illinois and New York, including notable sites such as Rockefeller Center and the original World Trade Center.
Home Alone 2 was released theatrically in the United States by 20th Century Fox on November 20, 1992. The film received mixed reviews from critics, who commended the performances but criticized its darker tone and violence, as well as its resemblance to the original film. It grossed over $359 million globally, making it the third-highest-grossing film of 1992. Notably, Home Alone 2 is the only sequel in the franchise to feature most of the original cast. Home Alone 3 (1997) introduced a new cast and characters, while the television film Home Alone 4 (2002) included returning characters from the first two films, albeit with a different cast. Devin Ratray reprised his role as Buzz McCallister in the sixth installment of the franchise, Home Sweet Home Alone (2021)..
Plot
In Chicago, the McCallister family is getting ready to celebrate Christmas in Miami. Peter and Kate's nine-year-old son, Kevin, is displeased with this plan, expressing his dissatisfaction by stating that Florida does not possess the Christmas charm of snow and trees. During a school Christmas pageant, Kevin's older brother, Buzz, embarrasses him in front of the audience. In retaliation, Kevin pushes Buzz, which triggers a domino effect that knocks over the choir and ruins the performance. Back at home, an exasperated Kevin refuses to apologize to Buzz and criticizes his family for believing Buzz's falsehoods and for their desire to spend Christmas in Florida. He angrily retreats to the attic, wishing he could enjoy the holiday in solitude.
