The Darkest Minds is a dystopian science fiction film from 2018, directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson, with a screenplay by Chad Hodge and produced by Shawn Levy and Dan Levine. The cast includes Amandla Stenberg, Harris Dickinson, Mandy Moore, and Gwendoline Christie. This film is based on Alexandra Bracken's 2012 young adult novel of the same title, and it narrates the story of a group of children who are fleeing from the government after acquiring superpowers as a result of a mysterious infection.

On September 15, 2014, it was revealed that 20th Century Fox had acquired the rights to the novel, and that Levy would be producing the film through his company, 21 Laps Entertainment. Stenberg was cast in the role two years later, on September 26, 2016, and principal photography commenced in April 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Darkest Minds premiered in the United States on August 3, 2018. It garnered negative reviews from critics and was considered a box-office failure.

=== Plot ===
In a bleak future, a disease known as Idiopathic Adolescent Acute Neurodegeneration claims the lives of almost 90 percent of children in the United States. The survivors gain extraordinary abilities, categorized by color: Green (enhanced intelligence), Blue (telekinesis), Yellow (ability to manipulate electricity), Red (ability to control fire), and Orange (telepathy and mind control). Those classified as Red and Orange are deemed excessively hazardous and are euthanized. The remaining children are placed in confinement camps.
