The film was announced on October 23, 2023, starring Jack Quaid, amidst the SAG-AFTRA strike against Hollywood studios. ''Novocaine'' was granted an interim agreement that allowed independent productions to continue filming, so long as they had no direct members of the AMPTP. The interim agreement allowed production of the film to start, with filming slated for January of 2024. It was the first film for [[FilmNation Entertainment]]'s startup Infrared, with hopes for the film to launch a franchise to help Infrared get off the ground.<ref name="Deadline announcement"/> Amber Midthunder was tapped to play Quaid's on-screen love interest. * The film's title is a play on the anesthetic "Novocaine" commonly used in dental procedures. The drug makes people completely number to pain, the effects of which are similar to the condition Caine presents with in the film.
