Following the resolution of their most recent case, Mystery, Inc. finds itself embroiled in a long-standing conflict among its members. Fred Jones, the self-centered leader who craves attention, Daphne Blake, who is weary of her role as the perpetual damsel in distress, and Velma Dinkley, whose ideas Fred frequently appropriates, engage in a fierce dispute. As a result, the group decides to part ways, leaving a disappointed Shaggy Rogers and Scooby-Doo behind to tend to the Mystery Machine, their iconic van<ref name=":0" />.
