== Plot == The talking chipmunk brothers, Alvin, Simon, and Theodore, live in a fir tree that is subsequently cut down and transported to Los Angeles after being purchased by JETT Records as a Christmas tree. In the meantime, struggling songwriter Dave Seville faces rejection of his latest demo by the chief executive Ian Hawke, who advises Dave to abandon his songwriting pursuits. In a moment of desperation, Dave steals a muffin basket from one of Ian's subordinates and returns home; the Chipmunks, who are also in the same building, leave the tree and jump into the basket. Dave then discards the basket and prepares to throw out his musical instruments. A confrontation ensues between Dave and the Chipmunks, who are searching for snacks in his pantry, resulting in Dave being knocked unconscious. Upon regaining consciousness, he is initially frightened and forces the Chipmunks to leave his home. However, after hearing them perform "Only You (And You Alone)" and "Funkytown," Dave retrieves his instruments from the rain and strikes a deal with the Chipmunks to perform his songs in exchange for food and shelter. That evening, Dave composes a song for them. The following day, Dave plays the piano while the Chipmunks rehearse his song, "Christmas Don't Be Late." Unfortunately, when Dave attempts to showcase the Chipmunks to Ian, they are unable to sing due to stage fright. The situation deteriorates further when Dave is dismissed from his marketing position because the Chipmunks inadvertently ruin his presentation boards. During a dinner with his ex-girlfriend Claire, Dave struggles to conceal the Chipmunks after Alvin tries to create a romantic ambiance, leading to an uncomfortable departure by Claire. Feeling defeated, Dave writes a letter expressing his regret about taking them in, urging the Chipmunks to return to the forest, and packs a few items for them, but ultimately discards the letter under his bed. He then searches for them but is unsuccessful. In an effort to make amends with Dave, the Chipmunks take a taxi to Ian's opulent mansion where they perform Dave's song, which prompts Ian to offer a record deal, thereby reviving Dave's songwriting career as the Chipmunks' manager.
